Old boots and blossom
We have a Cherry tree in our garden. It’s a ‘Non Fruiting Cherry’ tree. Yes, such a thing can exist and I don’t get it either. It’s a strange old thing, and in fact has a preservation order on it, much to the chagrin of the neighbour whose garden backs on to our, and who would love to see it gone. He prunes diligently any branches that over hang his garden.
It’s gnarly and has big leaves, that over the course of the summer become splotchy and not that pretty. But, we love the tree, and in fact when we moved in, our little girl who was two years old at the time, called it ‘Lizzie tree’. However, for about two weeks out of the year during my favourite time of the year, it is in blossom, and GLORIOUS. Big fat white Sakura blossom, and the Bees love it. When it is in full blossom, if you stand underneath it, the buzzing is intense, as there are probably about thirty bees in there, I kid you not. We have been in the house for nearly three years now, seen three Springs, and every Spring I take pictures of the blossom, and try very hard to get a decent picture of a Bee. Have I ever succeeded in getting a good capture of one of these wonderful mini beasts? Have I bugger! You would think with the amount of bees in this tree at any one time I would, but no.
Suffice to say I shall keep trying, and while we are on the subject of Bees, there are some things I should mention. The British Bee is in decline. Three species are extinct already, and more are under threat. This is due to pesticides, and the erosion of their natural habitat. But there are things we can do to help. Because Bees are CRUCIAL. No Bees, no food. Check out this website about how to help Bees. It’s excellent. It’s not overlong, over wordy or too heavy, but carries some very pertinent and important content.
Now for some blossom pics from this years batch.

Just a few days after my birthday, Malcolm McClaren passed away, after a long battle with cancer. He wasn’t that old, just in his early 60′s, no age at all. I was deeply shocked. Malcolm had always been so full of life, verve, vitality and having such a sheer abundance of energy, that the idea of his being no more was hard to grasp.
Also, Malcolm and what he represented was an intrinsic part of youth. I was 15 in 1977. I was a punk, I saw virtually every punk band of note (and some less so) and spend a good deal of my teenage years and my twenties haunting the Kings Road, particularly when I was a design student. I coveted though could not afford the wonderful clothes on sale in Sex and Seditionaries, and how much are they worth now?
Suffice to say, that though Malcolm didn’t invent ‘punk’ (as many claim), he certainly was a major force in it’s character, look and direction along with his partner of the time, Vivienne Westwood.
It also got me thinking about all the events, changes, inventions and new technologies I have seen come and go in my lifetime. So, off the top of my head, here are some of the most notable events, happenings, to which I was either witness or involved in.
These are not necessarily in chronological order.
There are lots more I know, these are the events I can easily recall to mind as having happened in my lifetime…and it’s a lot.
RIP Malcolm. You helped make my teenage years a more colourful experience.

Luke and Orla and PINK cake
Was a strange day indeed. Things didn’t go entirely to plan, but it was still nice.
This is what happened. I had not been well for a few weeks and had in fact recently recovered from Pharyngitus, which took place over Orla’s birthday. Luke managed to soldier on over her party period, and my inlaws came to help with her party, so all was good. I wont be posting pics of her party here as there are other peoples children in shot, and I have strong views about that kind of thing.
Anyway, about two days before my birthday, I catch Laryngitus from Orla, am laid up in bed. Then, the day before myactual birthday, my laptop fries, and we lose everything on it, and I mean EVERTHING. All my email, accounts, passwords, web site designs and lay-outs, some artwork, years of bookmarks, accounts, tax info….the list is endless. Did I cry, indeed I did. So, on my birthday my husband went out and spent money we don’t really have on a new laptop for me. A Toshiba L450-181. It’s a big beast with a wide screen monitor and does the job perfectly. Do I love him..well, just a bit.
Also, he and Orla made me a PINK birthday cake. Luke also bought me a new bag from Eella at OSix on DaWanda, some DVD’s, some Liz Earle cream and some choccies. So despite the distaster of my dying laptop, and being ill…it was a good birthday, and it was made so by my family.
